DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Husson University women's basketball team drooped a 72-62 decision to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in its opening matchup of the Florida Sunshine Shootout on Wednesday.
Husson (6-4) and WPI (8-2) were tied 10-10 after the opening quarter before the Engineers carried a slim 29-28 advantage into the half.
The Eagles won the third quarter 17-16 tying the game 45-45, but WPI benefited from a 27-17 run over the final 10 minutes to pick up the 72-62 win.
Graduate student
Vanessa Duarte led the Eagles with 15 points and five assists, while sophomore
Hannah Richards tallied 13 points and junior
Trinity Montigny added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Junior
Makaelyn Porter finished with eight points on 4-6 shooting and fellow junior
Bailey Donovan tallied seven points and six boards.
Husson will look to get back into the win column on Friday when it battles King's College (Pa.) in its final game of the shootout with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
