Men’s basketball drops non-conference contest to Bowdoin

Story Links

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Bowdoin College 61-54 on Sunday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium.

Neither the Eagles (3-6) nor the Polar Bears (5-6) were able to gain any ground in the opening 20 minutes as Husson led for nearly all of the first half, but only possessed a lead as big as seven, as the score remained knotted up at 25 at the halftime break. The two teams came out shooting cold from the field, as they managed to go a combined 20-of-56 during the first half, which also saw the teams combine to turn the ball over 18 times.

Senior Derek Collin led the Eagles offensive attack during the opening half as he tallied six points. Juniors Jeremy Moronta and Scott Lewis, as well as sophomore Corey Humbles each poured in five points during the period. Humbles also grabbed six rebounds and recorded three steals, while Lewis blocked three shots and dished out three assists in the half.

Husson looked to have gained some traction in the beginning of the second half, as they opened on a 17-7 spurt. Bowdoin would counter and finish the game on a 29-12 run to pick-up the victory.

Lewis finished as the leading scorer for the Eagles as he finished with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Graduate student Justice Kendall also scored in double-figures with 12 points, while Collin rounded-out the double-digit scoring with 11 points.

Men's basketball gets a much-needed break before heading west to California for a two-game trip. The team will play the University of Redlands on December 29th for a 7 p.m. tip-off, before traveling to Occidental College the next day.
