CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Husson University men's basketball team caught fire in Tuesday's season opener on the road against Massachusetts Institute of Technology and never looked back in route to an 89-57 opening night victory. 
 
Husson (1-0) trailed 5-2 early in Tuesday's season opener, but after an Eagles basket and back-to-back free throws by freshman 
Eric Ahlers, Husson took a 6-5 lead at the 17:23 mark and never trailed again. 
 
The Eagles rattled off an 11-4 run after taking the lead to extend their advantage to 17-9 and led 40-30 over the Engineers at the break. 
 
MIT (0-1) scored the opening basket of the second half and battled the Eagles 16-14 over the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but Husson ended the night on a 33-15 scoring run to ice the game and come away with the road victory. 
 
Ahler's tied junior 
Jeremy Moronta with a team-high 15 points in his collegiate debut, shooting 3-6 from behind the 3-point arc and grabbing four rebounds. Moronta finished 5-8 from the floor off the bench for the Eagles with a team-high six rebounds. 
 
Graduate student 
Justice Kendall finished with 12 points on 2-3 shooting from behind the 3-point line, while junior 
Scott Lewis added 14 points and an impressive four blocks in his return to the court.

Derek Collin matched Moranta with a team-high six rebounds apiece as Husson finished with a 43-32 advantage on the glass. 
 
The Eagles finished the night shooting over 50 percent from the floor and over 46 percent from 3-point range, while limiting the Engineers to 35.9 percent shooting. 
 
Husson will look to keep its shooting touch on Thursday when it hosts the University of Maine-Fort Kent at 7 p.m. for its home opener.
