BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University football team won its fourth-consecutive game on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action against Nichols College 27-14 at the Dr. John W. Winkin Complex in Bangor.

The Eagles (5-4, 4-1 CCC) drew first blood as junior quarterback Nic Visser threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to freshman running back Jed Lober, where Lober made three defenders miss on a short screen pass to cap off a nine-play, 65-yard drive to give Husson the 6-0 lead.

After Husson forced the Bison (3-6, 0-5 CCC) into a turnover on downs, they struck immediately. Visser hit senior wide receiver Tyler Thompson in stride on the ensuing play 30 yards down the field and Thompson did the rest as he took it to the house for a 76-yard touchdown.

Nichols struck back three drives later as sophomore running back Tiago Fernandes concluded an eight-play, 60-yard drive as he scampered in from four yards out to bring the Eagles lead down to 13-7.

Husson didn't take long to rebound as on the ensuing kickoff senior linebacker Phoebus Floyd picked up a short kick and ran 71 yards to the Bison eight-yard line. The Eagles found paydirt just three plays later as Visser connected on his third touchdown pass of the half to sophomore wide receiver Dom Wilson who scored from four yards out. Husson would convert on a two-point attempt to bring their lead back up to two touchdowns, with Visser converting the play on the ground.

Eagles senior defensive back Josh Ladipo would put an end to Nichols's last drive of the first half as he intercepted Bison junior quarterback Xavier Powell in the endzone as the half concluded to keep the Husson lead at 21-7.

Ladipo would get his second interception of the game as he put an end to Nichols's second drive of the third quarter and allowed the Eagles offense to take over at the Bison 36-yard line.

Senior kicker Aaron Paradis made a 24-yard field goal to extend the Husson lead. With that field goal, Paradis broke the single-season made field goal record for Husson football.

Nichols would refuse to go away though as they struck just six seconds into the final quarter with Powell throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass to graduate student wide receiver Hunter Ferreira to bring the game to 24-14.

Paradis would extend his field goal record as he connected from 24 yards once again to put the Eagle back up by 13.

Powell would attempt to lead the Bison on a comeback but their drive would come to an end deep in Husson territory as junior lineback Adam Bertrand picked off a Powell pass at the Eagles two-yard line.

The Husson offense would drive 85 yards to run out the final 6:28 of the game and allow the Eagles to earn another conference victory.

Visser put together another efficient passing performance for Husson as he completed 27 of his 33 pass attempts for an 82% completion rate. Visser also tallied 344 yards in the air and his three touchdown passes.

Lober paced the Eagles rushing attack as he recorded 62 yards on 16 rushes, in addition to catching five passes for 71 receiving yards.

Thompson led the Husson receiving core with four catches and 111 receiving yards and his 76-yard touchdown.

On defense, junior linebacker Tucker Buzzell was the anchor yet again as he put together a 16-tackle performance, as well as recording a sack in the game. As a result, Buzzell broke the single season total tackle record, previously held by Stephan Dance (103 in 2013), as he currently sits with 106 on the season. In addition, Buzzell also set a new mark for assisted tackles in a season as well with his 10 assisted tackles on the day to give him 61 on the year. The previous mark of 54 was held by Dance since 2013.

Bertand also had double-digit tackles with 10, as well as his interception to seal the game.

The Eagles are back in action next Saturday as they will travel to Salve Regina University for their regular season finale. Kickoff for this CCC matchup is set for 12 p.m.
