BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University football team regained possession of the Lobster Trap trophy after a 31-14 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
The Eagles (2-4, 1-1 CCC) won the coin toss to begin the game as they choose to receive and that decision paid off with a ten play drive for 75 yards as freshman Jed Lower capped the drive off with a ten yard score for his first collegiate touchdown.
The Nor'easters (3-2, 1-1 CCC) would respond with their first offensive drive of the contest as Jarrett Henault used the quarterback sneak from a yard off to cap off a nine play, 63 yard touchdown drive.
The score would remain tied at seven until four seconds left of the first half as senior Aaron Paradis connected on a 21-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 10-7 lead.
The Eagles were able to put the game to bed in the second half with back-to-back scores as senior Tyler Thompson and sophomore Cullen Casey were on the receiving end of touchdown passes from junior Nic Visser to make it 24-7 with six minutes left. The Nor'easters were able to get a score back as they tried to complete a comeback but interceptions by juniors Parker LaFrance and Tucker Buzzell put the game to bed for the Eagles. Buzzell was able to bring his interception to the house as the Eagles won 31-14.
Visser was 30-for-40 in the air for 352 yards and two touchdowns while also pounding together 58 yards on the ground. Buzzell led the defense with ten total tackles and his pick-six interception.
It's back on the road for the football team as they will make the trip to Katz Field in Milton, Mass. to take on the Colonels next Saturday with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
