BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference East Division Championship game with a 3-1 victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The Eagles (10-6-1) controlled the game for the majority of the opening half but couldn't find the back of the net. Senior
Charlotte Messer finally broke through for Husson in the 36th minute when she volleyed home a bouncing ball near the penalty kick spot to open the scoring.
The lead would remain 1-0 for the Eagles until the 64th minute when freshman
Marila Corletto placed a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box into the lower right corner of the goal for her fourth goal of the year.
The Owls (6-4-4) would make a late push and got a goal from freshman Camryn Ala in the 88th minute to bring the lead down to one for Husson.
The Eagles put the comeback bid to bed as freshman
Devon St. Louis scored less than a minute later on a perfectly placed pass from senior
Alexa Thayer to bring the score to 3-1.
Husson's defense would hold strong for the remainder of the game to earn the victory and the East division championship game berth.
