Murch scores in field hockey loss to #15 Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Husson University falls to #15 Bowdoin College, 6-1, in non-conference field hockey action at Ryan Field on Sunday afternoon.

Bowdoin (6-3) went ahead 1-0 off a senior Faith Jennnings goal in the seventh minute of play. Jennings tallied her second of game one minute and 12 seconds into the second frame.

Junior Jill Cloonan opened the second half scoring when she collected her own rebound and pushed it past Husson's (4-5) senior keeper Kimmie Goddard at the 33:55 mark.

Sophomore Olivia Cunningham finished off a feed from sophomore Hanna Wurdack to close out the third quarter to leave Bowdoin with a 4-0 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Junior Caroline Higgins put a stick on Cloonan's shot from the near left side, just 1:07 into the final quarter before sophomore Maya Malenfant finished off a perfect feed from junior Sophia Rosati to round out Bowdoin's scoring one minute later.

The Eagles spoiled the shutout with a successful penalty corner with time expired when junior Julia Murch drove the ball from the top of the circle and buried it in the left corner. Sophomore Allison Drew was credited with an assist on the Murch goal.

Goddard played 51.32 and made 12 saves. Sophomore Rileigh Andre played the final minutes and stopped one shot. Julia Arsenault made one save to earn the win for the Polar Bears.

Husson returns to New England Collegiate Conference action when the host Thomas College next Saturday at 6 p.m.
