STANDISH, Maine - The Husson University women's swimming & diving team opened up their 2022-23 season with a 99-89 victory over the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine inside the Harold Alfond Center pool on Saturday afternoon.

Olivia Smith won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:12.80, while the group of senior

Maggie Poulin, senior

Lily Butler tooked second with a time of 2:23.02.
Junior
Kayla Payson won the 1000-yard freestyle (12:26.96) and sophomore
Kat Christensen finished third in the event with a time of 14:59.09. Christensen earned the most impressive swim of the meet due to the fact that she broke the 15-minute mark in her very first attempt of swimming the second longest event that a swimmer can swim in a collegiate meet.
Madden (2:12.35), freshman
Emma Thomas (2:22.18) and Poulin (2:23.25) finished second, third and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively.
Jordan and junior
Isabella Viles earned Husson third and fourth place points in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 29.53 and 33.70.
Howe (2:41.75) and Soutter (2:45.77) finished second and third in the 200-yard individual medley, while Payson (1:05.02) and Emery (1:05.33) raced each other in the 100-yard butterfly which saw Payson out touch Emery by .31 hundredths of a second to the win the event.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Smith (1:09.25), Christensen (1:!6.36) and Viles (1:18.17) placed second, third and fourth to add nine points to the Eagle team score.
Howe finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.32, while Jordan (1:13.82) and Soutter (1:15.33) took fourth and fifth in the event.
Poulin (6:21.96) swam the second fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle being out-touched by Saint Joseph's (Maine) freshman Kiley Matthews by .24 hundredths of a second.
Emery (1:18.44) and Madden (1:19.62) took second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke as the Monks completed their comeback to take an 89-88 lead going into the final event of the dual meet with a sophomore Tiffany Twombly victory, and a freshman Soucy Elise and a sophomore Ashley Thompson fourth and fifth place finishes. However, the Eagle depth was too much for the Monks to hold off as Payson, Viles, Thomas and Smith won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:14.75 to clinch the 11th straight victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine).
The Eagles return to the pool on Saturday, October 22nd when they play the host for the Monks and the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy in the second annual Husson Relay Meet.
