LYNDONVILLE, VT. - The Husson University men's soccer team battled the muddy conditions at Northern Vermont University of Lyndon as they defeated the Hornets, 3-0, in North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (10-3-2, 7-0-1 NAC) were rewarded early in the match on attack versus the Hornets (1-10-1, 0-8-0 NAC) as freshman
Arik Weinstein drove a low cross into the box as freshman
Will Feldman was able to tuck home the finish into the bottom right corner for his first collegiate goal in the eighth minute of the match.
In the 18th minute, graduate student
Tyler Welch used continued success down the left flank as he fired a cross to junior
Damian Sheffer who tapped it over to sophomore
Arni Hreidarsson who fired home his seventh of the season. With the assist, Sheffer recorded his first collegiate point.
The scoring would conclude in the 25th minute when freshman
Carlos Etchevers curled over the wall on a free kick and into the bottom left corner for his third goal of the season.
Sophomore Alexander Rechstiner recorded a three save clean sheet for his sixth of the season.
"Today was a solid performance on a difficult playing surface," said head coach
Gavin Penny. "There was a lot of rain that fell yesterday and it made the field soft and heavy. We were able to give many players some valuable minutes today. It's really a testament to this squad. We were in control for the entire game and created many chances to score. We were happy to get 3 more points and another shutout. Securing the #1 seed on the East again was a goal of ours and we are glad to have done that again. We have a quick turnaround and looking forward to our last non-conference regular season game tomorrow."
The men's soccer team is back at it tomorrow when they take on New England College for their final road contest of the regular season with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m. at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.
