Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University men's soccer team has now gone six straight unbeaten as they delivered a 6-0 loss to University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The offense presence from Wednesday carried over to the game as the Eagles (6-2-2, 4-0-1 NAC) were able to find the back of the net twice in the first ten minutes of the contest. Junior Raphel Beckenbauer dished out two beautiful passes to set up junior
Arni Hreidarsson and graduate student
Christian Quinones for easy goals versus the UMPI (2-5-2, 2-3-0 NAC) keeper. In the 23rd minute, the Eagles were able to make it 3-0 as freshman
Carlos Etchevers curled one into the goal from the corner kick for his second of the season.
The second half was much of the same as they fired a total of 27 shots. Hreidarsson was able to find his second of the game followed a penalty kick goal for sophomore
Mario Alvarez. The graudate student
Tyler Welch capped off the scoring as he caught the UMPI keeper out of the net and scored from 30 yards out.
Sophomore Alexander Rechsteiner was able to record the clean sheet in goal as he was forced to make a single save.
""I am pleased with how well we started the game today," said head coach
Gavin Penny. "UMPI are much improved from previous seasons and worked hard to make it difficult for us. We dealt with the pressure well enough and I was happy that we were able to convert three in the first half. That being said, I was not happy with our finishing. We had plenty of chances to kill the game but we let it drag on and on. If we want to be a top, top team then we need to be better in front of goal. It's not acceptable to be okay with being okay. It won't work against the best teams. I challenged the lads to improve our form in front of goal. We can't rely on 27 chances to score six goals every game, because some games we won't be provided with such opportunities. I'm hoping for a better showing tomorrow".
The men's soccer will return to action tomorrow at Boucher Field for a non-conference fixture versus Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with kickoff set for 11 a.m.
