Box Score BANGOR, Maine – First-year forward Kailey Hackett scored a goal off a pass from Adelle Foss early in the overtime period as the Husson University earned its first victory of the season, a 3-2 win over New England College (NEC) at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on a rainy Saturday evening.
The victory enabled the Eagles to improve to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in the conference while Husson snapped the Pilgrims' six-game winning streak and avenged an earlier 3-1 loss. New England fell to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The win came in Husson's first home game of the season.
Hackett's first career goal came at 63:56 as Foss earned her second assist of the game.
Sophomore Julia Murch gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead when she scored off a pass from Foss just 4:07 into the contest.
A goal by Drew Chin, her 13th of the season, tied the game at 1-1 at the 20:00 minute mark. Early in the second half, Allie Drew gave the Eagles a 2-1 advantage, when she fired her first career goal pass Ellie Philben.
Once again, the Pilgrims came back and tied the game when Mikayla Vincent scored at 55:08 to make it 2-2.
The Eagles' defense, led by goalkeeper Kimmie Goddard, did a great job as Husson held the Pilgrims to a pair of goals. Goddard made five saves against a team, who was averaging 3.8 goals per game. Philben recorded 15 saves in the setback for the Pilgrims.
NEC outshot Husson by a 21-18 margin.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday when they host Manhattanville at 11 a.m.
