Husson Takes Down Thomas in the NAC East Men's Lacrosse Championship

WATERVILLE, Maine - Pulling away from the Thomas College Terriers (3-2, 3-1 NAC) in the third quarter with seven goals, the Husson University men's lacrosse team (4-3, 3-1 NAC) took down the Terriers, 20-8, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Championship on Friday evening. With the win, Husson advances to the NAC Championship.

Thomas shot out to an early lead, with Max Irons scoring 42 seconds in. Husson quickly tied it with a Matthew Boynton goal less than a minute later. Daniel MacWhinnie gave Thomas the lead back at the 11:34 mark, but Husson once again had an answer with Danny Carter making it a 2-2 game with 9:57 left in the first.

The teams traded two more goals apiece in the period, with William Heywood and Irons scoring for Thomas and Roman Dennis and Jaden Wells scoring for the Eagles to make it a 4-4 game after one.

Husson blanked Thomas in the second quarter, recording three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead into the break. Dennis scored one for the Eagles while Gunner McAllister picked up two in the period.

The Eagles continued their scoring run in the third, scoring six more unanswered goals. McAllister had three during the stretch, while Boynton picked up two and Dennis added one more. The Terriers were able to end their scoring drought late in the third with a goal by Jakeb Weston, but Husson answered right away with a goal by Wells to make it 14-5 heading into the fourth.

After a Boynton goal started the period for Husson, Thomas answered with three in a row by Heywood, Nathan Carter and Irons to make it 15-8. The Eagles closed the game on a 5-0 run, with two goals by Carter and Ben Huynh, plus McAllister's sixth of the day to cap off the 20-8 victory for the Eagles.

Shawn Ragaglia earned the win between the pipes for Husson, making 11 saves on 19 shots on goal. Daniel Guarino took the loss, allowing nine goals on 14 shots in just over 32 minutes of work. Patrick Buxton finished the game in goal for Thomas, making eight saves on 19 shots on goal.

The season comes to a closed for the Terriers while the Eagles await the outcome of the West Division Championship game, Saturday at 1:00 PM. SUNY Poly and SUNY Canton will play for the right to host the Conference Championship game next Saturday, May 8.
