Husson Baseball Secures Historic 15th Straight Victory with Win over UMPI

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - For the first time in program history, the Husson University baseball team (15-4, 15-0 North Atlantic Conference) has won 15-straight games after defeating UMaine-Presque Isle (0-10, 0-9 NAC), 6-4, in the series finale at the Alfond Diamond on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles began the scoring in the first with two outs as David LeBlanc singled and followed up with some smart base running to help him score from third on a single up the middle from Chris Ewanik

UMPI responded in the next half inning by taking the lead. Joey Lippo tied the game with a single to right before the Owls took the lead on an Eagle fielding error. It was 2-1 UMPI when the Eagles scored four runs with two outs in the bottom half of the second inning. Tyler Parke and Nick Swift each drove in a run before Ewanik brought home both Eagles to give Husson a 5-2 edge after two innings.

In the third inning, the Eagles added an insurance run as Austin Snow ripped a liner down the left field line and Ethan Stoddard scored from second.

UMPI rallied in the seventh inning as they scored two runs. Bailey Corley singled to center then Nick Perfitt scored Lippo on a fielder's choice. The Owls were threatening with runners on the corners and one out in the eighth but Jackson Thayer entered the game and retired the final two batters of the inning and struck out the final three batters in the ninth to give the Eagles their historic victory.

ON THE MOUND

Nathan Church picked up his second loss of the season after allowing six runs on seven hits in over two innings. Jordan Hanscom and Patrick Outler finished the game for the Owls allowing a combined four hits in five-plus innings pitched.

For the Eagles, Alex Brooks opened the contest and gave up a first inning run but struck out two. Five pitchers were used from the bullpen as they went a combined eight innings and allowed two runs. The bullpen effort was highlighted by Logan Sheridan who pitched the second and third inning en route to his second win of the season as he allowed a run on two hits. Jackson Thayer went on to get his first collegiate save after pitching a perfect 1.2 innings and stiking out the final three batters.

OFF THE BAT

  • Batting extremely well under pressure today, Husson scored all six runs with two outs in the inning, for an impressive .500 avg (8-for-16) with two outs.

  • Lippo had two singles including an RBI-single and also scored a run.

  • Ewanik helped the Eagles with three RBI and three hits.
