Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine - Bats exploded in the sixth inning of both games today for the Husson University baseball team (12-4, 12-0 North Atlantic Conference) to help lead the Eagles to a NAC Battle of the Birds sweep over the University of Maine at Presque Isle (0-7, 0-6 NAC) at the Harold Alfond Diamond. Husson shutout UMPI, 13-0, in the first game then took game two, 6-1.
GAME ONE: HUSSON 13, UMPI 0
With the bases loaded in the top of the second, Ethan Stoddard drove the ball past the shortstop and into left field to bring home the first two runs of the game. An UMPI error brought home Jackson Curtis and advanced Stoddard to third as he would score when Kobe Rogerson sent a sacrifice fly to center.
Three runs were added in the fourth as Rogerson drove home Austin Baron then Tyler Parke doubled to score Rogerson and, the next batter later, Parke would score on an UMPI error.
Husson closed out the scoring with six runs in the sixth. Parke started it off with his second extra-base hit of the game as he tripled off the left field wall to score two runs, then was brought home by LeBlanc's single. Later in the order, with the bases loaded up, Nick Swift sent in the final two runs on a pinch-hit base hit.
ON THE MOUND
For the Owls, William Stinson falls to 0-2 on the season after lasting over five innings and allowing nine earned runs. He finished the day striking out two. Kaiden Crowley took over for Stinson and lasted a third of the inning before Roberto Pena came into the game and struck out the final batter.
Chris Naylor earned his third victory of the season after facing 16 batters in five innings. He finished with two hits, while striking out three. Ryan Penney entered in the sixth and struck out a batter. Blake Slicer closed out the game and allowed one hit, but fanned an Owl in the effort.
AT THE PLATE

Parke led the squad with three runs driven in on two hits and he scored twice.

Jordan Hanscom, Joey Lippo, and Bailey Corley each recorded a hit.

Rogerson, Stoddard, and Swift each drove in two runs.
GAME TWO: HUSSON 6, UMPI 1
The score remained deadlocked, 0-0, until the third inning when the Eagles plated the first two runs. Austin Baron led off the inning and was able to get on base. David LeBlanc drove home Baron with a triple off the left field fence as LeBlanc would score on a sac fly from Brandon Smith.
The Eagles piled on the runs in the sixth inning. Evan Holzworth started off the scoring with a base hit to score Stoddard. Holzworth was driven home by a Rogerson single. With runners on the corners, Arika Warren would wrap up the Eagles scoring with a base hit to center that sent Rogerson and Austin Snow home.
UMPI scored a consolation run in the seventh as Nick Perfitt walked in Will Stinson, but the Eagles ended any chance of a comeback on the way to the sweep.
ON THE MOUND
Bailey Corely made his first collegiate appearance on the mound for the Owls, and went over five innings as he allowed six runs on eight hits. Jordan Hanscom, in relief, recorded the final two outs, but conceded a hit.
Harrison Lendrum gave up two hits through five innings and struck out four en route to his first victory of the season. Alex Smith took care of the sixth inning with a 1-2-3 inning then Jesse Colford pitched the seventh allowing one run to score, but struck out an Owl.
AT THE PLATE

Warren drove in two runs to lead the offense.

Perfitt and Nathan Church helped out the Owl with hits in game two.

Stoddard and LeBlanc each scored a run and recorded two hits.

Both teams will return to the Alfond Diamond tomorrow for games three and four of the series with the second conference doubleheader starting at noon.
