Men's Larcosse Falls to Thomas in NAC-East Opener, 14-13

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University men's lacrosse team fell to Thomas College, 14-13, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division game on Saturday afternoon at Bernatchez Field.

IN THE ACTION:

Husson (0-3, 0-1 NAC-East) came out of the gates with two unanswered goals by Darryn Bailey and Matthew Boynton, the Terriers evened things back up with back-to-back goals from Max Irons. The Eagles took the lead back late in the first off Danny Carter's first career goal, but William Heywood evened it back up to knot the score at 3-3 after one.

Nathan Carter gave Thomas (1-0, 1-0 NAC-East) a 4-3 lead when he found the back of the net one minute and 30 seconds into the second quarter, but Husson quickly answered to tie the score 4-4 off a man-up goal by Jaden Wells. Thomas scored three unanswered to take command at 7-4 before the teams traded two goals a side over the final four minutes of the quarter as Thomas took a 9-6 edge going into the break. During the final four minutes of the quarter the Eagles received goals from Roman Dennis and Gunner McAllister.

Following a quick goal by McAllister to start the third, Thomas answered with goals by Heywood and Mathew Crisco to push their lead to 11-7.  A Boynton goal in the final few minutes of the quarter cut the Terrier lead to 11-8 going into the final frame.

Two goals from Bailey and McAllister, and a goal from Wells put late pressure on the Terriers in the fourth, but a goal with six to go by Jakeb Weston proved to be too much for the Eagles as Thomas picked up the 14-13 victory.

THE KEEPERS:

  • Patrick Buxton worked the first half between the pipes and earned the win for the Terriers, making 10 saves on 16 shots on goal. Daniel Guarino came in for the second and held the lead for Thomas, making six saves on 13 shots.
  • Shawn Regaglia recorded 11 saves for the Eagles in the setback.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • McAllister tallied four goals and an assists.
  • Bailey netted three goals with an assists and three groundballs.
  • Wells registered two goals, two assists and two groundballs.
  • Boynton scored two goals.
  • Carter added one goal, while Jacob Larochelle had an assist to go along with his game-high ten groundballs.
  • Irons scored three goals to lead Thomas with three groundballs.
  • Kieran McGrath, Crisco, Heywood, Weston and Carter each registered two goals for the Terriers.

NEXT!

The Eagles will hit the road once more this time heading to North Adams, Mass. to take on the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a NAC-East match-up on March 27th. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
