Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine - Amanda Frost's first collegiate goal was a game-winner as the Husson University field hockey defeated Thomas College, 2-1 in overtime, to become champions of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for the first time since 2018. The Eagles closed out the season with a 9-7 record while Thomas dropped to 9-9.
The Eagles scored the lone goal of the first half in the dying moments of the first quarter. Teagan Blackie forced a turnover in the shooting circle then set up Phoebe Joy for the shot and she went short side past the goalie for the opening goal. Kimmie Goddard with nine saves in the first half as the Eagles led the Terriers by one at halftime.
Two minutes into the second half, the Terriers tied the game. Kimmie Goddard made a save on Julia Reny's shot but Briney Gregoire was there to slot home the rebound. Both teams pushed for the game-winner but Goddard and Brennan Pinto combined for five saves in the second half as it went to overtime.
In the overtime period, it was dominated by Husson as the Eagles had the only shots in the frame. Midway through the overtime, Victoria Friend set up Frost inside the box and the sophomore's shot found the bottom corner for the conference-winning goal.
Goddard was named Most Valuable Player after making 18 saves in the tournament including 12 today while Frost, Katie Perkins, and Maya Joy as well as Goddard were named to the NECC All-Tournament Team.
The season has come to an end for the Eagles but they go out as champions of the NECC.
