Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University field hockey team earned revenge from the weekend with a 4-1 New England Collegiate Conference victory over the Terriers from Thomas College at the Winkin Sports Complex on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Terriers earned their first conference loss of the season at 5-1 while the Eagles improved to 5-2.
A fantastic start for the Eagles with three goals in the opening ten minutes with two goals from Phoebe Joy. The first goal was scored three minutes into the contest as Ryley Newcomb shot was saved and she passed the rebound infront of the goal and P. Joy was there for the tap-in. Three minutes later and it was 2-0 Eagles as Victoria Friend recieved a pass from Leigha Carrier and the seeing-eye shot into the bottom corner of the net. Five minutes later and the Eagles were up three. Newcomb again with a pass across the goal mouth and Joy picked up her second of the game with the easy tap-in.
There was no scoring in the second quarter as Kimmie Goddard made two saves and the Eagles led by three at the break.
Both teams scored in the third quarter as the Terriers reduced the lead to a two goal game after a goal from Britney Gregoire. The Eagles revived the three-goal lead as P. Joy put home an unassisted goal before the end of the quarter to earn her first collegiate hat trick.
The Eagles' faced five penalty corners in the fourth quarter but the defense shut the door down for the victory.
Kimmie Goddard made eight saves as she moves to 6-7 while Brennan Pinto drops to 4-3 on the season after a six save loss.
One final game for the regular season takes place on Saturday, October 30th when the Eagles host the University of Maine at Farmington for the conference contest beginning at 11:00 a.m.
