Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Husson (4-6) picked up it's fourth win of the season with a 16-6 win over Medaille College (1-6) out of Buffalo, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Husson opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. Brandon Smith and Kieth Pomeroy each hit one out singles, and moved to second and third on a balk. Ryan Hoogterp brought them in with a double to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Medaille took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. After Isaac Genao led off the inning with a base hit up the middle, Anthony DeJoseph moved him to second and reached first himself with a bunt single. They moved up to second and third with a double steal, and Genao scored on a wild pitch. Andrew Schaffstall took first on a wild pitch, and Shawn Filas's double scored both DeJoseph and Schaffstall, making it 3-2 Medaille. Patrick Whelan walked, and a Timothy Gaudioso double plated Filas and Whelan to make it 5-2 Medaille at the end of the third.
Husson came right back in the top half of the fourth. Smith singled to center, and Holzwoth reached on a throwing error, sending B. Smith to third. Hoogterp doubled down the right field line, scoring Holzworth and Smith. A Nick Guerrette single to right field scored Hoogterp to tie the game at five apiece. But the Eagles weren't done, as David LeBlanc and Ethan Stoddard hit infield singles to load the bases, and Michael Schneider brought in a pair of runs with a single down the left field line, giving Husson a 7-5 lead after four.
Medaille added a run in the top of the fifth, but Husson continued to pour it on in the bottom of the inning. Hoogterp singled to center and stole second. Guerrette walked, and he and Hoogterp moved up to second and third on a wild pitch. After Kobe Rogerson walked to load the bases, LeBlanc singled home Hoogterp. Stoddard then drew a walk to score a run, Rogerson scored on a wild pitch, and LeBlanc stole home on a walk to Austin Baron, make it a 11-6 game. The Eagles added one more run before the final out of the inning on a B. Smith RBI single, giving Husson a 12-6 lead through five.
Husson tacked on a run in the sixth, and three more in the seventh, and put Medaille away in seven innings, 16-6.
ON THE MOUND - HUSSON:
- Jesse Colford (W, 1-1) got the start and went 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.
- Jake Gauvin and Austin Smith pitched the final 2.1 innings in scoreless relief.
ON THE MOUND - MEDAILLE:
- Jon Dref got the start for Medaille. He went four innings and gave up eleven hits and seven runs, four of them earned. He walked one and struck out five.
- Aidan Bova took the loss for Medaille. He allowed five runs on two hits and four walks.
- Derek Hotlz pitched 2.1 innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits, with two walks and a strikeout
- Evein Dennis gave Medaille two outs of scoreless relief.
OFF THE BAT - HUSSON:
- LeBlanc went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Schneider had a 2-3 day with two RBI.
- B. Smith was 4-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.
- Hoogterp went a perfect 4-4 with six RBI, two doubles, and three run scored.
OFF THE BAT - MEDAILLE:
- Gaudioso was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
- Filas had a 1-3 day with a double, a run scored and two RBI.
- Genao, DeJoseph, Adrian O'Toole, Schaffstall and Evan Dunning each had a hit for the Mavericks.
