Box Score GORHAM, Maine - University of Southern Maine (4-2-0) defeated Husson University (1-3-0), 3-2, in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Hannaford Field on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ciera Berthiaume put the Huskies up 1-0 with her fourth goal of the year, scored at the 9:46 mark before Alli Carey netted her first of the season with a nice pass from Bri Saulter nine minutes later knotting the contest at one apiece.
The game remained a 1-1 stalemate until the 47th minute when Adela Kalilwa scored an unassisted goal to make it a 2-1 game. Husson once again tallied the equalizer this time off Alexa Thayer's first career colligate goal at the 65:41 mark.
Kalilwa struck again, potting the game-winner off an Alex Alain pass in the 81st minute and the Huskies held off the Eagle attack in the final minutes for the 3-2 victory.
THE KEEPERS:
HU goalie Shie Smith made four stops in a losing effort while USM's keeper Kayla Gorman recorded two saves in the victory.
LEADERS - HUSSON:
- Carey registered a goal off a team-high two shots.
- Thayer notched a goal off a team-high two shots.
- Saulter added one assist.
- Mackenzie St. Pierre and Arianna Mckinnon each recorded a shot.
LEADERS - SOUTHERN MAINE:
- Kalilwa scored on both of her shots on the evening.
- Berthiaume recorded two shots with a goal.
- Allian took a game-high seven shots and added a helper.
TEAM STATS:
USM held the advantages in shots (17-6), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (5-4).
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the loss, Husson falls to 5-10 in the history of the series with the University of Southern Maine, a team that the Eagles had not faced since the 2015 campaign prior to today's meeting.

The Eagles will trek home and host the Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference contest at John P. Boucher Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
