Eagles Open Conference Action Falling to Mariners

Box Score

CASTINE, Maine - The Husson University women's soccer team (1-2, 0-1 NAC) was knocked down by the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy (3-2, 1-0 NAC) in a coastal conference battle at Ritchie Field Saturday afternoon, with a final score of 3-0.

IN THE ACTION:

Mariners' first-year defender Suzanne Wooldridge tallied the first goal of the contest at the 39:38 mark, following a corner kick. The goal finalized by accidental contact with Husson junior netminder Shie Smith, resulting in a recorded own goal.

Later on in the first half at the 17:21 mark, Maine Maritime first-year forward Kelsey Bern found the back of the net off an assist by Mariners' senior defender Kelsey Anair for the clear lead advancing into halftime.

A back-and-forth defensive battle led to nearly an entire scoreless second half of soccer, however, with barely two minutes left to play, Mariners' senior midfielder Eryn Doiron aimed true past the right shoulder of Smith, bringing the Maine Maritime lead to 3-0 just before time expired.

THE KEEPERS:

Eagles' goalkeeper Smith made seven saves against ten Mariner shots on goal. Mariners' goalkeeper Emily Conway made saves on all three Husson shots on goal.

UP NEXT!

The Eagles travel to Gorham on Tuesday, September 17th to take on the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine. The contest is scheduled to begin at 6:30 P.M. at Hannaford Field.
