Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Husson University (3-4, 2-0 NAC) cruised past Northern Vermont University-Johnson (0-8, 0-2 NAC), 82-38, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball contest at the William P. Newman Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
IN THE ACTION:
The Eagles got out to a slow start, trailing by four points early on until Megan Peach put the green and gold on the board with a three pointer. Shortly afterwards, Sami Ireland hit back-to-back jumpers giving the Eagles a 7-4 lead with 7:08 remaining in the first quarter. A Halie Tillotson made jump shot 12 seconds later cut the Eagle lead to one, but that was closest the Badgers got all game as Husson went on a 22-0 run to close out the quarter for a 29-6 lead heading into the second frame.
Husson opened the second stanza extending their run to 24-0 after Bailey Donovan scored on a layup 46 seconds into the period before Alexandra Barry ended the Eagle run by making one-of-two free throws with 8:55 remaining in the first half. However, Husson answered with an 11-6 run in the final minutes of the quarter to take a comfortable 42-13 lead heading into the second half.
Out of the break, the Eagles continued to maintain the pace, outscoring the Badgers, 23-16, in the third quarter, as Peach poured in seven points in the quarter. The Eagles put the icing on the cake, outscoring NVU-Johnson, 19-7, in the final stanza for an 82-38 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Vanessa Duarte came off the bench to score a game-high and career-high 17 points with three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
- Donovan added 15 points off the bench, while adding three blocks, one steal, two assists and eight boards.
- Peach contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
- Ireland and Sydney Allen each chipped in with eight points.
- Klaire Ware tallied 13 points and five rebounds for the Badgers.
- Tillotson had 13 points for NVU-Johnson with three boards.
