Box Score CHICOPEE, Mass. - Senior captain Kolby Kain scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 57th minute of the match to lead the Eagles (5-4, 2-0 NECC) to a 3-1 victory over the Elms College Blazers (3-10, 0-2 NECC) on Saturday night.
IN THE ACTION:
The Blazers took an early lead over the visitors as Ellie Serra found Emily Huber in the 4th minute of the game and was able to put one away for the home team. Despite Husson holding a 4-0 shot advantage in the second quarter, the Eagles went into halftime down 1-0.
Husson would not stay scoreless for long as they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 38th minute. First-year defender Victoria Friend scored off of her first career penalty stroke, sending a hard ball to the left of Elms' goalkeeper Nora Newman to even the score 1-1. The Blazers and Eagles traded offensive opportunities for the next twenty minutes, but were unable to break through the opposition's defense.
Kain broke the stalemate in the 57th minute for the Eagles as she was able to find the back of the net on a penalty corner. With 15 seconds remaining in the game, Kain found first-year Ryley Newcomb on a penalty corner, who added her third goal of the season as she sent a shot past Newman.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
First-year goalkeeper Kimmie Goddard earned her fifth victory of the season as she made two saves on the night. Newman finished with 11 saves for the Blazers.
