Field Hockey Advances to Fifth Straight NECC/NAC Championship with 4-0 Shutout over Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H. - Husson University field hockey cruised to a 4-0 victory over New England College in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)/North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal on Saturday afternoon.  

The Pilgrims will see their season come to a close with a 9-10 record overall and a 6-0 record in the NECC. The nine wins for the Pilgrims are the most since the 2012 season. Husson will advance to the NECC/NAC championship game on Sunday, November 4th, improving to a 4-12 overall record.

THE SCOOP:
Meredes Pease got Husson on the board with the first two goals of the contest. Pease received a pass from Allison Leighton to break the scoreless game just eight minutes into play. Pease talied her second goal of the afternoon barely four minutes later, when she was standing on the goal line and teammate Arika Brochu sent a ball her way, she tipped it off her stick right into the cage.

Sadie Royer would add another goal in the 25th minute to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead for her 17th of the season and Haley Ward extended the Eagles' lead to 4-0, just three minutes into the second half for her 8th goal of the year as the Eagles floated on this cushion to the final whistle. 

BETWEEN THE POSTS:

Christine McNeil made two saves on six shots on goal. Audrey Carr recorded a defensive save for the Pilgrims while Karen Stemm protected the net with a defensive save for the Eagles. Andrea Shaggy made five saves, picking up her second career shutout. 

UP NEXT!

Husson field hockey will take on Thomas College for the first ever meeting in a conference championship and the third postseason matchup between the Terriers and Eagles. The match will take place at NEC with a start time of 12:00 p.m. as Husson competes in their fifth straight championship final and the programs 10th overall.
