Women's Soccer Stumbles at Colby-Sawyer, 4-1

Box Score

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Husson University women's soccer team was defeated by Colby-Sawyer College, 4-1, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Husson dips to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the NAC. The Eagles are scheduled to host Lyndon on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the NAC. The Chargers will step out of conference action to host Gordon on Wednesday.

Colby-Sawyer junior Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) opened the scoring in the 25th minute when she finished her team leading sixth goal off an assist from sophomore Molly MacLure (Westford, Mass.).

Husson senior Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, R.I.), the NAC's leading scorer, tied the match 10 minutes later with her ninth goal of the season.

The game reached halftime knotted at 1-1, but the Chargers turned up the offense in the second half and scored three times, on a 13-3 shot discrepancy, for the 4-1 win.

Colby-Sawyer junior Maddie Chamard (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored twice in the second half on almost identical plays. In the 58th minute, she notched the game-winner on a corner kick. She sent a bending ball right towards goal that went off the goalie and into the net. Fifteen minutes later, Chamard would do it again, as she sent a corner kick that bent inside the near post and off the goalie to give Colby-Sawyer a 3-1 lead.

Junior Morgan Keene (Barre, Vt.) scored her first goal with the Chargers with less than a minute to play to give Colby-Sawyer the 4-1 victory.

Husson keeper Sami Ireland (Howland, Maine) collected 13 saves. Colby-Sawyer keeper Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.) played the first 45 minutes with one goal allowed and four saves. Sophomore Marissa Williams (Mattapoisett, Mass.) finished the match and made two stops to earn the win.
