Men's Lacrosse Falls to New England College in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals

HENNIKER, N.H.—The Husson University men's lacrosse team was defeated 20-2 by the top-seeded New England College team in the North Atlantic Conference semifinals.

NEC LEADERS 
The Pilgrims were led by ​junior Matt Richard (Weare, N.H.), who took sole ownership of NEC's single-season points record following a five-goal, four assist performance. He now has 115 points this season from 53 goals and 62 assists.

Senior Sean Largay (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in with four goals and three assists, while sophomore Daniel Medvetz (Henniker, N.H.) added four goals and an assist.

Freshman Jacob Blanchette (Weare, N.H.) tallied three goals in the win.

Both Richard and sophomore Connor Fries (Barnstable, Mass.) had six ground balls apiece, while Fries led the team in caused turnovers with four.

HUSSON LEADERS

The Eagles received goals from Brooks Gay and Jacob Boothby, while Zach Glazier and Tyler Talbot each tallied an assist.

Faceoff specialist Owen Richmond won 13 of his 25 attempts on the day and scooped up a team-best four ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED

William Pendleton (Chalfont, Pa.) fed Largay for the first goal of the game 1:17 into the game and the Pilgrims did not look back, scoring the first five goals of the game before Husson got on the board with Boothby's goal with 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Pendleton netted a goal of his own to start the second quarter. After a nearly five-minute drought in goals, Husson tallied their second goal of the day to bring the score to 6-2, but it would prove to be the closest they would get as NEC scored the next 14-straight goals over the final 36 minutes of the game.

GOALTENDERS

Husson goaltender Nick Zavorotny tallied 20 saves in the loss, while NEC's William Platt (San Francisco, Calif.) stopped seven shots in 45 minutes of action.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • NEC outshot their guests 68-16 on the day, with a 40-9 advantage in shots-on-goal.
  • Husson edged NEC in faceoff wins, 13-12.

 

This concludes the 2017 Husson University men's lacrosse season.
