Box Score BANGOR, Maine—Husson (4-7, 3-3 NAC) saved one of their best performances of the year for their senior game as they downed Johnson State (0-9, 0-6 NAC) 20-1.
Despite it being the senior game, the Eagles were led by exceptional performances from underclassmen Zach Glazier and Jacob Boothby who together scored 13 of Husson's 20 goals. Glazier himself fell just short of double-digit goals, recording eight scores to go along with two assists while Boothby added five goals of his own.
Johnson State was shorthanded on the day and weren't able to field a full team and the Eagles played the situation to their advantage, using a fervent offensive attack that wore the Badgers down. Husson used a strong first quarter to establish a lead and gain control of the game. Glazier and Boothby combined for six first quarter goals with one more coming from Brooks Gay to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead heading into the second period.
Husson slowed the game down in the second quarter, preferring to play possession ball and wear down the Badgers defense. As the game slowed down the physicality went up, and after a chippy second quarter Husson took a 10-0 lead into halftime after two more goals from Glazier and one more from Gay.
The physicality continued into the second half and it played to Husson's advantage. Matt Verrill scored a man-up goal with Johnson State serving a penalty, and Glazier and Boothby continued to frustrate the Badgers defenders with their offensive attack.
Johnson State was finally able to get on the board early in the fourth quarter with a goal from Travis Brown, but that was all the Badgers were able to muster on offense as the Eagles clamped down defensively. Blaine Miller, Adam Littlefield and Mitch Spurr added goals in the fourth quarter for Husson as they ran away with the 20-1 win.
Goaltender Nick Zavorotny only faced five shots in net for the Eagles, turning four away while allowing one goal. Travis Brown faced a mind-boggling 37 shots in net for the Badgers, saving 17.
Husson will close out their regular season on Tue. Apr. 25 where they'll travel to Castine and face Maine Maritime.
