Eagles Take Down Mules 6-4

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Eagles took on the Colby Mules for a long nine-inning game out in Waterville, taking a 6-4 win on Tuesday night.

Eagles' (16-12) Christian Corneil and Alex Chapman took full advantage of a wild pitch in the top of the second followed up with an error by the catcher, scoring the first two runs of the game on the Mules (7-17). It didn't take long for Colby to answer, as Matt Garcia smashed a homer in the bottom of the inning, but luckily for Husson the bases were empty.

The Mules evened up the score 2-2 in the next inning after a single by Matt Treveloni scored Ben Coleman.

To put a little more cushion on the score, Husson, Logan Rogerson scored off of an error following a hit by Ryan Rebar in the top of the fifth. Corneil stepped up with the bases loaded and waited patiently for his pitch, drawing a walk which pushed Mike Wong home. Two singles later by Chapman in the fifth then Rebar in the sixth, put Husson up 6-2.

Colby attempted one last rally in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs off of a double by Andrew Della Volpe then a sacrifice fly by William Wessman, before succumbing to the Eagles 6-4.

The final three innings of the game were scoreless on both sides. Both teams went three men deep into their pitching bench, each throwing four pitchers into the game. For the Eagles, Austin Smith walked away with the win, pitching the first five innings, while Steven Hanscom, Jesse Colford, and Nick Guerrette (picked up a save) all contributed to close out the final four innings.

Volpe went 3-for-4 on the game for the Mules while Coleman went 2-for-5. Jackson Ward, Keenan Juliano, and Volpe all hit a double during the game.

As for the Eagles, Chapman went 2-for-4 while Rogerson had two scored runs. Corneil, Chapman, and Rebar all picked up an RBI by the end of the game.

Husson baseball will be back on the field tomorrow, Wednesday, April 19th at home as they take on Bowdoin for another nine-inning game under the lights, at 7pm.
