Baseball Sweeps Thomas at Colby College, 11-0, 4-3

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University baseball swept their doubleheader with Thomas College, 11-0 and 4-3, on Wednesday night at Colby College. After today's games, the Eagles improve to 13-10 (7-3 NAC) on the year while the Terriers now sit at 2-19 (2-7 NAC).

Game 1: Husson 11, Thomas 0

The Eagles offense got to Terrier pitcher Ryan Jurgiewich (Medway, Maine) early in the top of the first, plating five runs.  An RBI single from Sam Huston scored two runs for a quick lead.  Christian Corneil followed with a two-run shot to left field off the scoreboard.  Luke Covey plated the final run of the inning for a 5-0 advantage.

Husson pushed across two more unearned runs in the second for a 7-0 lead.  Mike Wong and Huston each scored on errors.

The Eagles tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth on a grand slam from Huston to finish at 11-0.  Huston went 2-for-4 with three runs and six RBI.

Husson pitcher Jesse Colford kept the Terriers off balance all game with seven innings pitched, three hits, no runs, and nine strikeouts.

Isaiah Arana (Orlando, Florida), Grant Corbett (Manchester, N.H.), and Derek LeBlanc (Madison, Maine) held the only hits for the Terriers.

Game 2: Husson 4, Thomas 3

The Eagles struck first in the top half of the second as a single from freshman Matthew Smith brought in Corneil and Huston for an early lead.

Thomas cut the lead down to one in the bottom of the fourth as a ground out from Jordan Gibson (Marietta, Ga.) plated Corbett.

In the next inning the Terriers rallied back with two runs to take a 3-2 lead.  LeBlanc singled to center field to score Arana, tying the game up.  Corbett followed with an RBI triple for the Terriers first lead of the day.

The lead was short lived as the Eagles tied the game back up in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Smith.  Logan Rogerson was the game-winning run in the top of the seventh as he scored on a wild pitch.

Freshman Jonah Gorgone (Casselberry, Fla.) started on the mound for Thomas, throwing six innings and allowing three runs.  Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass.) was given the loss on the mound for the Terriers in relief.

Jacob Gauvin earned the win on the mound for Husson, throwing 1.1 innings in relief of Austin Smith who allowed three runs in 4.2 innings.  Nick Guerrette threw a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to pick up the save.

The Eagles return to the diamond Friday at New England College for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
