Field Hockey Loses to #9 Wellesley, 4-2

BANGOR, Maine – Husson University field hockey team fell to nationally ranked Wellesley by the score of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Winkin Sports Complex.

Kerianne Downing gave Husson (1-2) a 1-0 lead one minute and 33 seconds into the game off a nice pass from Libby Kain.

Cecie Negron scored the equalizer at the 20:05 mark before Courtney Peterson put Wellesley (2-0) up by one heading into the intermission.

Coming out of the break, Lauren Russell found Taylor Shaw (39:43) tying the game at two before Courtney Peterson scored the game winner in the 40th minute.

The final tally of the game came in the 44th minute when Peterson scored once again off an assist by Negron.

Lucy Hurlock registered 12 saves in the victory. Kaitlin Dolloff made ten saves in the loss.

The Eagles outshot the Blue 25-17 and the Blue held the advantage in penalty corners, 10-8.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they travel to Springfield College for an 11:00 a.m. non-conference game and the Blue host Wesleyan (Conn.) on Sunday Sept. 11 at 12:00 p.m.
