Box Score Bangor, Maine – Brandon Corbo's eight points help propel Husson to a 9-6 win over Thomas in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Lacrosse Championship quarterfinal match-up on Saturday afternoon at John P. Boucher Field to advance to their seventh consecutive NAC Men's Lacrosse Championship semifinal.
Husson (6-9) extends their home postseason winning streak to six, while Thomas (3-9) drops their ninth-straight to the Eagles and falls to 2-9 in the all-time series.
The Eagles scored the first goal of the game when Corbo found the back of the net on a feed from Trent Sell at the 4:36 mark of the first quarter. Thomas evened it out at one a piece as Colby Blondin scored a man-up goal 43 seconds later and the game remained tied going into the 2nd quarter.
Parker Chute gave Thomas the 2-1 lead two minutes and thirty seconds in the quarter off a pass by Gershom Renee and Chute found Bryan Ferris with 10:04 remaining to extend the Terrier lead by two.
Husson responded right back on man-up goal by Brandon Bosse off another Corbo helper with 8:38 left to go in the half. Sheldon Jones answered right back with a unassisted goal at the 7:46 mark and Marc Roy scored a late period goal off another dish from Corbo cutting the Thomas lead to 4-3 going into the intermission.
The Eagles came alive in the third as Bosse from Corbo, Corbo, Brooks Gay from Corbo and Gay from Sell all scored to give Husson the 7-4 lead with 11:13 left in the period. Zac Crimmin closed out the period with the Terriers' second man-up goal of game off a feed by Chute cutting the Husson lead to 7-5.
Husson extended their cushion to four when Driscoll setup Corbo at 6:13 and Sell tallied a man-up goal after taking another Corbo pass with 4:41 remaining in the game. Blondin scored his second of game off a Ferris helper as time expired making the game 9-6.
Corbo finished the game with a game-high three goals and five helpers off 25 shots to go along with his seven groundballs and one caused turnover. Bosse and Gay each tallied two marks while Sell and Roy added one apiece. Sell had two assists and Driscoll had a helper in the victory. Nick Iannetti led all players with 12 groundballs and Chad Merrill caused a game-high five turnovers. Iannetti and Stefan Smith combined to win 18-of-19 face offs for the Eagles. .
Blondin led Thomas with two goals off seven shots and scooped up five groundballs. Chute, Jones and Ferris each tallied a goal, while Chute, Renee and Ferris added helpers in the setback.
Connor Lamberton registered 27 saves and scooped up a team-high six groundballs in the lost. Matt Martin made six saves to pick up the win in the net for the Eagles.
Husson held the statistical edge out shooting Thomas, 60-21, and took the battle of the groundballs, 82-32. Husson was outstanding clearing the ball converting 19-of-23 clears while the Terriers cleared the ball 22-of-32 times.
Husson travels to Vermont on Wednesday, May 4 to face second seeded Castleton to determine who advances to the 2016 NAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Final. Game time to be determined.
