Corbo Becomes Husson's All-Time Assists Leader in 17-3 Win Over Thomas

BANGOR, Maine - Brandon Corbo scored four goals and dished out three helpers to become the Husson University men's lacrosse program's career leader for assists as the Eagles defeated the Thomas College Terriers, 17-3, on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Boucher Field.

Husson (4-8, 4-2 NAC) ends a three game losing streak, while Thomas (1-8, 1-6 NAC) loses its eighth consecutive to the Eagles and falls to 2-8 in the series.

At the 11:18 mark of the first quarter Brooks Gay found Brandon Bosse for the opening goal of the game as the Eagles led 1-0. Three straight goals from Trent Sell with assists from Brett Martin and Corbo on his first and third goals extend the Eagle lead to 4-0 before Corbo scored his first of game as time expired in the quarter.

The Eagles scored three more times in the second when Vinny Visconti scored the opening goal after taking a feed from Derek Driscoll for a man-up goal at the 10:48 mark. Sell tallied his fourth marker of game off a dish from Corbo and Gay added his second with a man-down goal with 2:21 remaining in the half as Husson led 8-0 at the intermission.

Colby Blondin put the Terriers on the board to open the scoring in the third with an unassisted goal at the 13:31 mark. Brett Martin responded right back off a Visconti assist to ignite the Husson offense once again as Driscoll scored 50 seconds later. 

B. Martin tallied his second of game at the 8:40 mark off Corbo's 72nd career assist breaking the career assists mark of 71 set by Nick Brown (2009-2012). Driscoll tallied his second off a nice feed from Sell with 6:15 left in the quarter and three straight goals from Corbo closed out the quarter as Husson led 15-1 going into fourth period. 

Kade Strout scored a pair goals in the fourth for the Terriers in between B. Martin's third at 11:01 and Driscoll's third with 2:05 remaining making the game 17-3.

Sell and Corbo each had four goals and three assists to lead the Eagle offense.  B. Martin and Driscoll added three goals and one helper while Visconti, Gay, Bosse contributed a goal. Gay dished out two assists and Visconti chipped in with one. Derek Johnson scooped up six groundballs and caused a game-high four turnovers. Nick Iannetti won 14-of-18 faceoffs and led Husson with ten groundballs. Goalies Matt Martin and Nick Zavorotny split time in the Eagle cage.  M. Martin started and made four saves over the opening 33:56 and was credited with the win before giving way to Zavorotny.  Zavorotny posted two saves over the final 26:04. 

Strout tallied two goals, and Blondin chipped in with a goal as Zac Crimmin added an assist for the Terriers. Blondin and Connor Lamberton led Thomas with four groundballs. Lamberton stopped 16 shots in the net for the Terriers.

The Eagles held the statistical edge out shooting the Terriers, 64-26, and took the battle of the groundballs, 52-18.  The Eagles were outstanding clearing the ball converting 17-of-20 clears while Thomas cleared the ball 12-of-28 times.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Green Mountain for a 3:30 p.m. NAC game and Thomas closes out the regular season with a home-and-home series with rival UMaine-Farmington April 25 and 27. Monday's contest is a North Atlantic Conference game at Farmington, while Wednesday's return game at Smith Field will not figure into the NAC standings.
