Box Score CASTINE, ME – The Husson men's lacrosse team fell behind to Maine Maritime early and could never recover, falling to the Mariners 12-6. The win puts Maine Maritime at 4-5 and 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference. The loss drops the Eagles to 4-5, with a 3-2 mark in the NAC.
The Mariners jumped out to a quick 5-1 1st quarter lead thanks to two goals from Peter Moore and Nicholas Betti and one from Mike Fuller. Zack Glazier (Winthrop, ME) found the back of the net for Husson off an assist from Kevin Nolan (Norwood, MA).
The teams traded goals to start the second period. Betti started the scoring, but was quickly answered when Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) fired one past Mariner goalie James Wilgus.
Bronson Guimond then notched a goal and Derek Driscoll (Portland, ME) responded in a man-up opportunity. Maine Maritime scored two more times to take a 9-3 lead at the break.
Corbo scored all three second half goals for the Eagles, but it wasn't enough as the Mariners scored three times in the second half to clinch the victory.
Betti and Moore each had four goals for the Mariners, while Wilgus saved 12 shots.
Husson goalie Tom LePage (Lewiston, ME) made 11 saves in net.
Maine Maritime held a 46-37 advantage in shots, won the turnover battle 34-32, and scooped up more groundballs 46-42.
Husson's next game is at home Saturday when they host New England College at 3:30pm.
