Eagles Drop Non-Conference Tilt With USM; Win Streak Ends At 12

Box Score

Bangor, ME - Husson baseball dropped a tough non-conference matchup with the University of Southern Maine Tuesday, falling by a final score of 17-3. The Eagles kept it tight for the first few innings but errors and tough hitting were too much for Manager Jason Harvey's squad.

"It was a tough day playing a good team," Harvey said. "We need to get back to doing the things that brough us success as we head back into conference play."

Paul McDonough scored in the second for USM on a Damon Wallace single and then drove in a run of his own in the third to make it 2-0 Huskies.

In the fourth, the #21 Huskies piled on six runs on three hits and two Husson errors to jump out to an 8-0 lead after the top half and added seven more runs between the fifth and sixth innings to extend the advantage to 15-2.

The Eagles added their runs in the fourth and the fifth. Ryan Rebar singled to left center that moved Dan Whitney to third and scored Christian Corneil for the first Husson run.

In the fifth Corneil reached on a throwing error by the third baseman and advanced to second. Kyle Bishop scored on the blunder and JT Whitten moved to third and scored as Corneil advanced.

USM tacked on two more in the final two innings for the final score of 17-3.

Both teams used and array of pitchers as USM utilized nine arms throughout the nine inning contest and Husson trotted out six. Dennis O'Neil picked up the loss going three innings giving up eight runs (three of which earned) on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The Huskies Nick George earned his second win of the season going five strong allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits, four walks while striking out three.

Overall the Eagles have their 12-game winnings streak snapped and fall to 14-8 while the nationally ranked Huskies move to 12-6.

Husson plays at home on Thursday against Thomas in a doubleheader staring at 2:00pm that will be home games for the Terriers.
