Box Score 2 Bangor, ME - In yet another North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader Friday at the Winkin Complex, the Eagles took two from the Thomas College Terriers by finals of 1-0 in 11 innings and 13-0 to extend their winning streak to 12 games. It's the third longest in program history and the longest since 2009 when they ran off 13 in a row. Husson used just four pitchers on the evening, allowing only nine total hits while walking two and striking out nine. Husson improves their overall record to 14-7, their best start since 2009 and 10-0 in the NAC. Thomas falls to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the NAC.
Game 1: Husson 1, Thomas 0 in 11 innings
The pitching was the story in game one as both pitching staffs held each other scoreless until the bottom of the eleventh with two outs, when the Eagles scored the lone run. Ryan Rebar singled up the middle scoring Christian Corneil from third base with the winning run.
The Eagles had numerous chances to win the game in the bottom of the seventh but the Terriers' defense came up big. With the winning run 90 feet way, Rebar hit a fly ball to Anree Benitez who was playing centerfield for the Terriers. He caught the ball and threw a bullet to home plate to get a speedy Seth Freudenberger. After an Andrew Curran single up the middle to advance Zach Sugar to second, Brandon Gendreau hit a high hard line drive that was designated for right field but was caught by Alex Curtis saving the game once again for the Terriers.
Ben Walls threw the first ten innings of shutout ball for the Eagles, giving up just four singles and walking two batters while striking out four. Corey Mongiat pitched a perfect top of the eleventh to pick up the win. Mongiat improves to 2-0 on the year.
Kyle Fletcher picked up the tough loss for the Terriers to fall to 0-3. Fletcher after coming in for relief of stating pitcher Derek Kane in the 7th inning allowed just the one run on six hits and one walk and struck out one.
Game 2: Husson 13, Thomas 0
The Eagles scored all the runs they'd need in the second inning on route to a 13-0 victory in game two. Sugar went 1-2 with a walk, three RBI and an inside the park homerun to lead the Eagles.
Jordan Carter (two RBI), J.T. Whitten (one RBI, three runs), Curran (one run) and Gendreau (one RBI) all had two hits and Corneil had three hits for Husson in the win. Adam Wilson also made his presence felt, driving in two runs.
Brandon Reilly earned his second win of the season for Husson. The junior pitcher allowed just three base runners on three hits while fanning four. Zak Kochis pitched a clean seventh.
Charged with the loss for Thomas was Peyton Kennison (1-2) who went just an inning and a third. Kennison allowed seven runs on four hits and one walk.
With the two wins today, Coach Jason Harvey gets his 186th career win tying him with the second most coaching victories in program history with Del Merrill. Husson improves to 94-32 all-time versus Thomas and has now defeated the Terriers in the last 10 games dating back to the 2013 campaign. The Eagles also have defeated the Terriers at home in the last 11 games and improves to 52-7 all-time at home versus Thomas.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 7th when they host the number 15th team in the country the University of Southern Maine. Thomas is back in action on Tuesday, April 7th when they travel to Orono to face the University of Maine.
