Eagles Men's Lacrosse Drops NAC Semifinal to Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. – Husson Men's Lacrosse season ends by the hands of  the Spartans of Castleton State College 17-0, as Castleton advances to their 12th consecutive North Atlantic Conference championship game on Tuesday afternoon. 

Zach Davidson scored his 200th career goal on the day and registered a season-high 12 points on five goals and seven assists to lead the Spartan offense. The senior also upped his career point total to an impressive 395 points. Taylor Swarter added five goals and two assists while freshman Sam Siegel went for three goals and two helpers.

Castleton dominated defensively as well, outshooting the Eagles 57-20 and winning 16 of 21 faceoffs in the contest to improve to 12-5 overall. Henry Moser went 12-for-14 on faceoffs and picked up six ground balls while Ryan Crowningshield had five ground balls and three caused turnovers. The Spartans also picked up 36 ground balls to just 20 for Husson and caused 11 turnovers as the Eagles ended their season 9-7 overall. 

Siegel put the Spartans on the board at 11:50 on a nice feed at the goal mouth from Swarter. Davidson got in on the action with an underhanded rip to push the lead to 2-0 with 6:18 left in the period and Swarter scored the final goal of the quarter on a man-up opportunity off a pass from Davidson. 

In the second, Zach Devoid made it 4-0 at 11:49 on a man-up opportunity from Davidson. Davidson scored his second of the game with 3:20 left as Swarter found him, and Siegel extended the lead to 6-0 with just 33 remaining in the half. 

Swarter opened the scoring just 1:45 into the third quarter and Isaac Devoid scored at 12:58 for the 8-0 advantage. Swarter, Davidson and Siegel all added goals in the period for an 11-0 lead after 45 minutes. Castleton allowed just six shots in the fourth quarter as Davidson and Swarter scored twice while Devoid and Drew Wood netted the last two goals for a 17-0 final. 

Tom Lepage made 13 saves in net for the Eagles.

With the victory the Spartans will now host New England College in the NAC Championship this weekend. This marks the fourth consecutive year the two teams will play for the NAC Title.
