Mules defeat Eagles in Regular Season Finally, 11-7

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College and Husson University combined for 32 hits and used 12 pitchers as the Mules took an 11-7 non-conference victory over the Eagles on Tuesday at Coombs Field.

The Mules are 19-11 overall and will host University of Southern Maine in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon. Husson was playing its final regular season game and dropped to 25-15.

Tommy Forese hit two of Colby's four home runs, scored three times, and drove in four runs. Jason Buco also homered among his three hits, drove in two runs, and scored twice. Soren Hanson hit the other home run for the Mules.

Tim Corey, Ryder Arsenault, and Tyler Starks all had two hits for Colby. The Mules had 17 hits in the game against seven Husson pitchers.

Ryan Rebar led Husson with four hits, two runs, and one RBI. Kyle Bishop, J.T. Whitten, Adam Wilson, and Chase Allen all had two hits.

The Mules scored four runs in the first inning to take control. Buco led off with a single, Zach Ellenthal was hit by a pitch, and Forese ripped his first homer of the game for a 3-0 lead. Corey had a one-out double, moved to third on an out, and scored on Andrew Currier's double to center field.

In the second, the Mules went up 7-0 with three more runs. Starks singled to start the inning and Buco followed with a home run. The Mules loaded the bases and got one more run when Corey's single scored Ellenthal.

Husson got back two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Wilson doubled with one out, Corneil was hit by a pitch, and Jordan Carter singled to bring in Wilson. Allen followed with an RBI single to plate Corneil.

The Mules showed some power in the bottom of the fourth. Forese had a one-out homer to center field and Hanson followed him with a blast to right field for a 9-2 margin.

In the sixth inning, Forese walked and stole second base. Andrew Della Volpe had a two-out single to bring the run in.

Husson scored two runs in the seventh inning after Colby got the first two outs. Rebar singled and went to third on Bishop's single. Whitten had an RBI single to bring in Rebar and Wilson's single scored Bishop to make it 10-4.

The Mules loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. Peter McAuliffe's single brought in Ryder Arsenault with the last Colby run.

The Eagles applied a little pressure in the eighth inning with three runs. Allen had a walk with one out, moved to second on an out, and took third on a single by Andrew Curran. Rebar followed with an RBI single to bring in Allen and Bishop got an RBI with his single to make it 11-6. Husson scored one more run on a Colby error.

Max Manos pitched the first four innings for the Mules and was relieved by Louis Kraham in the fifth.
