Five-Run Second Inning Propels Baseball to Win Over Bates

Box Score

Bangor, ME – A five-run second inning is all Husson baseball needed on a damp, cloudy Tuesday afternoon, en route to a 6-3 over the Bobcats of Bates College. The Eagles used six pitchers on the evening, as Dennis O'Neil got the start and came out in the fifth to kick off the nine-inning tilt.

With the bases loaded in the fifth, She Freudenberger singled to right for the game's first run scored by Adam Wilson. Bates right fielder Nate Pajka threw off the mark on the play back to the infield and the Eagles scored another run via Christian Corneil.

Moments later, Andrew Curran also singled to right, this time right along the line at first and the ball skipped off the bag. Freduenberger and Jordan Carter both scored on the play to make it 4-0 HU.

The final run of the inning came uneared, as Ryan Rebar scored on a botched check of Brandon Gendreau by the pitcher throwing to first base. All five runs went to starter Connor Russell of Bates.

The Eagles added their sixth run in the fourth off reliever Samuel Warren. Gendreau this time grounded out to second and Freudenberger scored.

Ben Holmes gave up the three Bates runs in the sixth, but it would not be enough for the Bobcats on Alfond Diamond in a game that took two hours and twenty-two minutes to complete.

Corey Mongiat picked up his team-leading third save on the season, the most by an Eagle since now-assistant coach Shawn Smith had three in 2013.

Husson will close out their 2015 regular season campaign with a four-game set with New England College this weekend in New Hampshire and then at Colby Tuesday the 28th.
