Box Score 2 LYNDONVILLE, VT - The Husson University baseball team won both games in a Saturday doubleheader against Lyndon by scores of 11-5 in game 1 and 3-1 in game 2. The Eagles improve to 20-12 overall and 15-3 in the North Atlantic Conference while the Hornets fall to 5-15 with a 4-6 record in the NAC.
GAME 1
After trailing 3-2 in the second inning the Eagles scored nine times in a span of three innings to pull off the victory.
Husson scored four times in the top of the third to take a 6-3 lead. Christian Corneil (Bangor, ME) started things off with a bases loaded sacrifice fly that scored Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME).
Jordan Carter (Ellsworth, ME) plated home J.T. Whitten (Waterville, ME) and Darik Messier (North Troy, VT) on a single to right center. Chase Allen (Brewer, ME) would knock in Carter to complete the four-run third.
The Hornets would get a run back on a solo homerun from Ian Sackett to cut the deficit to two.
The Eagles erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Carter, Seth Freudenberger (Bangor, ME), Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME) and Bishop all picked up an RBI in the inning.
Dan Whitney (Bethel, ME) kept the Hornets in check, going six innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits. Whitney recorded four strikeouts and did not walk a batter as he picked up his fourth win of the season.
Starter Neil Robinson took the loss for Lyndon.
GAME 2
Game two was a pitchers duel, as both offenses combined to only get 10 hits in the game.
Robert Graff (South Portland, ME) pitched a gem for the Eagles as he only allowed one run on two hits and went the distance to pick up his fourth win of the season. Graff also struck out eight Hornet batters.
Brandon Flood pitched four innings of one-run ball for Lyndon, while Michael Raimondi took the loss in relief.
Husson jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Carter single that scored Messier in the top of the fourth.
Lyndon tied things up in the bottom of the fifth when Kevin Tufo singled home pinch-runner Collin Clark.
Husson would pull ahead for good when Carter scored on a wild pitch in the sixth. The Eagles added an insurance run in the seventh when Whitten reached on an error and allowed Andrew Curran (Hampstead, NH) to cross the plate.
The Eagles will stay in Vermont to continue their weekend series with the Hornets on Sunday. Game one of the doubleheader will start at noon.
