Box Score BANGOR, ME – The Husson University men's lacrosse team trailed by 10 in the third quarter and rattled off seven straight goals, but the comeback could not be completed as they fell to New England College 16-10 at Boucher Field.
The Eagles and Pilgrims traded goals to open the scoring as Skyler Saunders put the Pilgrims up off an assist from Matt Richard, but Jack White (Marston Mills, MA) was able to tie the game up less than a minute after.
The Pilgrims scored four straight goals to go up 5-1 after the first.
Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) would put the Eagles back on the scoreboard after scoring off a pass from Trent Sell (Lititz, PA) to start the second quarter. The Pilgrims would strike for four more and would wind up leading 9-3 at halftime.
After trailing 13-3 the Eagles would go for seven in a row to make the score 13-10, a boost which head coach Marsh Gray said brought some life to his team.
"We played with heart, but we unfortunate to have to dig out of such a large hole," he said. "That run happened because we played tough and physical, which was fun for the fans to watch."
Zack Glazier (Winthrop, ME) would score three goals in that run for Husson, while Brett Martin (Topsham, ME) and Corbo chipped in two.
Husson goalie Tom LePage (Lewiston, ME) made 18 saves in net.
NEC goalie Chris Galluzo stopped 15 shots for the Pilgrims.
Husson had more shots 48-38, groundballs 39-38, and won the turnover battle 22-16.
