Box Score 2 Bangor, ME – Husson baseball dropped a pair of conference games against the Spartans of Castleton State College on Saturday afternoon at the Winkin Complex. With the losses, the Eagles fall to 16-10 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
Game: 1 Husson 1, Castleton State 6
Castleton State got on the board early in this one with two runs in the top of the first. The Spartans would add another run in the top of the third to hold a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third frame, JT Whitten singled to third base, bringing home Brandon Gendreau.
The Spartans added one more run in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Dan Whitney pitched 5 and a third innings for the Eagles, allowing four earned on 10 hits with two walked batters and five strikeouts. Steve Hanscom came in for relief, allowing one hit over one and two thirds innings. Whitney falls to 3-1 on the season while Steven Jurkiewicz improves to 3-0.
Game 2: Husson 3, Castleton State 4
The Spartans plated three runs in the second and added another run in the third to get out to an early lead in game two. The game went scoreless until the bottom of the seventh as the Eagles would plate three runs in a comeback effort.
With the bases loaded, Seth Freudenberger would reach first on a fielder's choice, an error by catcher Nate Swahn of Castleton would allow Christian Corneil to score on the play. Cam Archer would later score on another error by first baseman Jimmy Buckley. Jordan Carter came home on a passed ball for the third and final run of the game.
Connor Graffam pitched two innings for the Eagles, allowing three earned on one hit with three walked batters. Ben Holmes faced three batters, allowing one earned on one hit with two walked batters. Brandon Grabkowski pitched the remaining five innings, allowing no runs and no hits with four strikeouts. Graffam falls to 0-1 on the season while Sam Spencer improved to 2-2.
Husson returns to action tomorrow at 12:00pm for a second NAC double header against the Spartans of Castleton State College.
