Corbo and Glazier lead Husson to a 16-8 victory over Lyndon State

BANGOR, ME – Brandon Corbo and Zach Glazier each scored four goals leading the Husson University men's lacrosse team to a 16-8 win over the Lyndon State Hornets on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Hornets of Lyndon State fall to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the NAC.

Husson came ready to play and built an early 2-0 lead with 11:45 left in the first quarter, thanks to goals from Brett Martin, Trent Sell, but the Eagles would show more of that offensive fire power as Sell would tally his second goal of the game putting Husson up 3-0 with 2:57 left in the first. The Eagles would end the first quarter up 5-0 thanks to two goals in the final minute by Corbo.    

Corbo continued his great day and kept the Eagles scoring attack going when he netted his third goal of the game only a 1:17 into the second quarter. Husson would keep the offense rolling, this time Glazier would finally find the back of the net when he beat the Lyndon State goalie Shane Morin with 5:17 left in the second putting Husson up 7-0. Corbo would score his four of the game putting the Eagles up 8-0 with 3:57 left in the first half.  Glazier kept the high flying Eagles in the air as he added his second goal of the game making it 9-0.   

Lyndon State would finally light the lamp with 1:39 left in the first half, when Justin Mosher beat Eagles goalie Tom Lepage making it 9-1. The Eagles answered right back when Jack White netted his first of the game with only 53 seconds left. The scoring was far from over though as Ricky Carroll would sneak a shot pass the Eagles goalkeeper with 18 seconds left in the second quarter to making it 10-2. 

Derek Driscoll would extend the lead in the third with 13:47 remaining, but Lyndon State would come out firing, scoring two unanswered goals by Ian Pelkey and Robert Crupi to make it 11-4 with 12:23 remaining in the quarter. The Eagles did not let that slow them down as they answered right back scoring the next two goals from Martin and Sell, making it 13-4. 

Lyndon State would score again in the third, this time coming off the stick of Kevin McCarthy, but Husson would score the next three from Glazier, Driscoll and again Glazier putting the game out of reach at 16-5.The Hornets would score the last three goals of the game, two of them coming from Pelkey and one coming from McCarthy making it 16-8. 

"We went out there and played hard and played pretty well, but we still have a lot of things we need to work on", said head coach Marsh Gray.

Lepage and Andrew Tarr combined to make 12 saves in net and James Seager grab a game high 15 groundballs to help lead Husson to the 16-8 victory.

Ian Pelkey led Lyndon State with three goals and two assists. Morin made 14 saves in net for the Hornets.

The Eagles outshot the Hornets 46-33 and also came away with the edge in ground balls 49-34.

Husson will look to continue their winning ways in NAC play on Tuesday at 4 p.m. when they play host to UMaine-Farmington.
