Box Score BANGOR, ME – Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) scored 21 points and Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) notched her 1,000th career point as the Husson University women's basketball team defeated New England College by the score of 73-59 on Friday night in Newman Gymnasium. Husson improves to 13-6 overall and 11-2 in NAC play while New England College falls to 15-5 and 9-4.
The Eagles took a 26-20 halftime lead courtesy of eight points and four rebounds from Katy Brochu (Bangor, ME) and four points and three assists from Samira Cruz (Orlando, FL). Comstock added four points, including becoming the 20th player ever to notch 1,000 career points, to go with three blocks.
The Eagles shot 37.9 percent for the half while limiting the Pilgrims to 31.0 percent. Marjani Lillard and Morgan Beechum each had four points and two rebounds to pace NEC in the first stanza.
With Husson clinging to a 28-25 lead with 18:28 left, the Eagles erupted for a 24-to-4 run through the next nine minutes courtesy of 14 points from McIntyre, to take a 52-29 lead.
The Pilgrims clawed their way back, but could not get within 10 points the rest of the way,.
Cruz and Brochu finished with 12 points each for Husson, while Brochu added 10 rebounds as well. Comstock and Taylor Blood (Lincoln, ME) each scored eight points.
NEC was led by Kayla Lawlor with 18 points.
Husson shot 39.3 percent for the game while holding NEC to 35.7 percent shooting. NEC held the rebounding edge 43-38.
Husson returns to the curt tomorrow when the Eagles host Colby-Sawyer at 3 p.m.
