HALL OF FAME FEATURE: VICTORIA MCINTYRE ‘16 ‘19G

For Victoria McIntyre '16 '19G, playing college basketball was something she dreamed about from the time she was young.

Becoming one of the best to ever wear a Husson University uniform — and eventually earning a place in the Husson Sports Hall of Fame — was something she never imagined.

"I was honestly shocked and incredibly honored," McIntyre said of learning about her induction. "It's not something I ever expected to get a call about, so it was a really special moment."

That call recognized a career that saw McIntyre develop into a steady scorer, reliable defender and one of the key pieces in helping Husson women's basketball begin a championship run that would continue long after her playing days were over.

McIntyre suited up for the Eagles from 2012-16, appearing in 106 games and making 101 starts. She finished her career with 1,077 points, 632 rebounds, 156 assists, 154 steals and 43 blocks while shooting 72.5% from the free-throw line. At the time of her induction, McIntyre ranks 18th in program history in scoring, tied for 11th in rebounds and tied for 18th with 6.0 rebounds per game.

Those numbers only tell part of McIntyre's story.

Her career culminated in a memorable senior season in 2015-16, when she was named Conference Player of the Year and earned D3hoops.com All-Region honors. McIntyre was also selected to participate in the New England Women's Basketball Association Senior All-Star Game and earned a spot on the North Atlantic Conference All-Tournament Team.

She was a two-time all-conference selection during her career, earned Husson's women's basketball Eagle Award in three-consecutive seasons from 2014-16 and was named the Clara Swan Female Athlete of the Year following her senior campaign.

Yet, McIntyre's approach was never centered around accumulating individual awards.

"I never thought about being in the Hall of Fame during my time at Husson," McIntyre said. "I was just striving to be my very best for my teammates and coaches and perform to the best of my ability."

That mindset helped produce consistency throughout her four seasons in the green and gold and created plenty of memorable moments along the way.

One came during McIntyre's sophomore season in dramatic fashion.

Playing on the road against Saint Joseph's College of Maine, McIntyre knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Eagles the victory — a moment that remains one of her favorite memories from her collegiate career.

But even that shot takes a back seat to how her Husson career ended.

As a senior in 2016, McIntyre helped the Eagles capture the NAC championship, giving her the opportunity to finish her playing career as a conference champion. The title also proved to be the beginning of something much bigger for the program, as it kickstarted a run of five-consecutive NAC championships for Husson women's basketball.

"Winning the NAC Championship my senior year was the cherry on top to my whole career," McIntyre said.

For all the memorable shots, victories and accolades, however, McIntyre's lasting memories of Husson are centered just as much around what happened away from competition.

"Looking back, I remember the fun that we always had together on and off the court," McIntyre said. "And I'm still very good friends with a lot of my teammates."

Those friendships became part of an experience that shaped McIntyre well beyond basketball.

A native of Mars Hill, Maine and graduate of Central Aroostook High School, McIntyre earned her bachelor of science degree in kinesiology with a concentration in human movement sciences from Husson in 2016. She remained at Husson following the conclusion of her basketball career and earned her doctorate in physical therapy in 2019.

Since earning her doctorate, McIntyre has worked as an outpatient physical therapist at Cary Medical Center. She became a board-certified Orthopaedic Specialist in 2024 and added pelvic health as another area of expertise in 2026.

Although her playing career has ended, McIntyre sees many of the lessons she learned as a Husson student-athlete reflected in the person and professional she has become.

"Husson helped shape me into the person I am today by teaching me the value of hard work, discipline, teamwork and perseverance," McIntyre said. "It gave me lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences and lessons that have carried far beyond the basketball court."

Now, McIntyre's Hall of Fame induction ensures that her contributions will remain part of Husson's history.

For someone whose childhood goal was simply to have the opportunity to play basketball at the collegiate level, joining the Hall of Fame represents something she could not have envisioned when that dream first began.

"This honor means a lot to me," McIntyre said. "I dreamt of playing collegiate basketball as a young girl, but this type of honor never crossed my mind. This is definitely in my top three career accomplishments."

The recognition carries additional meaning because of the example her career can provide to future Eagles.

McIntyre helped Husson reach the top of the NAC during her final season, setting the stage for a championship run that helped establish the Eagles as a perennial contender. Knowing she played a role in that success — and potentially inspired those who followed — is something she takes tremendous pride in.

"I was very proud to wear a Husson uniform and represent the community and the university," McIntyre said. "To know that my career may have helped pave the way and inspire future Eagles is such a prestigious honor. Husson will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'm extremely grateful to be part of its history."

McIntyre is also quick to share the recognition with the people who helped make her career possible, particularly her family, coaches and teammates.

"First, my family for always supporting me and traveling to all our home games," McIntyre said. "And second, my coaches and my teammates. This honor would not exist without all of you."

From dreaming of playing college basketball to becoming a conference champion, 1,000-point scorer and now a Husson Sports Hall of Famer, McIntyre's career became more than she ever envisioned.

And more than a decade after she first put on a Husson uniform, the friendships, lessons and memories remain just as important as the accomplishments.
