Box Score CASTLETON, VT – The Husson University women's basketball team fell to New England College in the NAC Semifinals by the score of 63-48 on Friday evening at Castleton. The Eagles fall to 17-9 on the year while NEC goes to 21-6.
The Eagles opened up an 18-10 lead, but NEC came back to tie the game at 26 with 1:38 left. NEC would take a 32-31 lead into half on a three-pointer with three seconds to go.
Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) had nine points to lead Husson in the first half while Katy Brochu (Bangor, ME) added six and Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) had five.
The Eagles shot 44.4 percent in the first stanza while limiting NEC to 35.7 percent. NEC held a 22-15 edge in rebounding.
NEC opened the second half on a 9-to-2 run, taking a 41-33 lead with 15:10 remaining.
Husson responded with a 9-to-nothing run and took a 42-41 lead on a Brochu free throw with 11:24 left.
The teams exchanged baskets, and the teams were knotted at 48 with 8:43 left.
NEC then erupted to score the next 15 points and took a 63-48 lead with 28 seconds left to push the game out of reach.
Guerrette finished with a team-high 16 points while Brochu added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kayla Lawlor scored 22 points for NEC.
Husson shot 25.9 percent for the contest while NEC shot 34.5 percent.The Pilgrims finsihed the game with a 52-36 rebounding edge.
