Box Score HENNIKER, NH – The Husson University women's basketball team fell in a heartbreaker to New England College by the score of 59-55 on Saturday afternoon in Henniker, N.H. Husson falls to 8-5 overall and 6-2 in NAC play while NEC goes to 13-2 and 7-1 in league play.
The Eagles took a 29-26 halftime lead courtesy of 10 points from Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) and six from Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME). Neither team shot well, with Husson at 27.5 percent and NEC at 29.6 percent.
Husson opened the second half on a 15-to-9 run, taking a 44-35 lead on a Denae Johnson (Bangor, ME) free throw with 11:50 left.
NEC responded with a 15-to-1 run to take a 50-45 lead with 4:42 left before Guerrette converted a layup to stop the run.
The Eagles would eventually get within two on a Katy Brochu (Bangor, ME) at 55-53 with 1:23 left, but NEC made 4-of-5 free throws down the stretch to push the game just out of reach.
Guerrette finished with 15 points and six rebounds while Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) added nine points and five rebounds.
NEC was led by Taylor Burgess who had 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Husson shot 27.8 percent for the contest while NEC shot 31.1 percent. NEC held a 59-46 rebounding edge.
The Eagles return to the court on Tuesday when they host Bowdoin at 7 p.m.
