Box Score HENNIKER, NH – Husson men's lacrosse fell to North Atlantic Conference opponent, New England College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 19-7. Husson goalie Eric Lund recorded his 200th career save in the losing effort.
The Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season and 3-1 in the NAC. The win is the eighth straight for the Pilgrims who improve to 8-1 overall and remain undefeated at 3-0 in NAC play.
The Pilgrims' Nick Herzog would start the scoring as he would get NEC on the board just over two minutes into the game. NEC would then tack on six additional first quarter goals, including three by leading scorer Adam Shute.
NEC would continue their offensive streak early in the second with three quick scores before Husson would break their drought as Kevin Nolan (Norwood, MA) would put in a pass from Mark Nardelli (Norwood, MA) at the 7:06 mark. Husson would close out the half with two more scores, including a man-up goal by Vinny Visconti (North Andover, MA) and an additional score by Nolan.
Husson would notch the first goal of the second half as Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) would pick up a loose ball and take it in for the unassisted goal just 47 seconds into the half. The two teams would exchange a pair of goals before NEC would close out the third quarter with three unanswered building their lead to 14-6.
The Pilgrims would carry the offensive push into the final quarter as NEC would out score Husson 5-1 in the final 15 minutes of play, including two man-up goals, en route to the eventual 19-7 victory.
Leading the way for Husson was Nolan who scored three times and Corbo who netted a goal and dished out two assists. Long stick midfielder James Seager (Gilford, NH) recorded six caused turnovers.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Chris Galluzo who finished with three saves, while Cody Kitsonrecorded 10 saves. In net for Husson was Eric Lund (Mansfield, MA) who recorded an impressive 20 saves on the afternoon, surpassing the 200 career saves mark.
"NEC is a very good team, and we made them earn everything today. Our transition defense could have been better and we allowed them to capitalize on too many unsettled opportunities, but this is the best we've ever looked against NEC," said Head men's lacrosse coach Marsh Gray, "I absolutely love this group of young men and I'm very proud of the heart, character, and class that they displayed today."
Husson University will hit the field again on Wednesday, April 9 when they host conference foe Maine Maritime Academy.
