Eagles Fall Short Against Spartans on Senior Day

Box Score

Bangor, ME – Husson men's lacrosse battled with the Spartans in a NAC rival matchup, falling 10-6 Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.

In a pregame ceremony senior's Nolan brown, Matt Catalano, Carey Kells, Eric Lund, Mark Nardelli, Kevin Nolan, Aaron Weinstein, and junior Brett Noble were all recognized for their contributions to the Husson men's lacrosse program.

Castleton struck first with two early first quarter goals from Austin Titus and Zach Davidson, but Husson's Jack White (Marston Mills, MA) picked up Husson's first goal of the game on a nice setup from Vinny Visconti (North Andover, MA) to close the game to 2-1 heading into the second quarter.

The Spartans would score three times in the 2nd quarter, while the Eagles only found the back of the net once on a Kevin Nolan (Norwood, MA) strike.

The Eagles turned it on in the third quarter, Brandon Bosse (Waterboro, ME) scored on a Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) assisted effort to make it 5-3, Nolan picked up his second goal of the game on another unassisted effort to make it 5-4. Castleton delivered on a man up opportunity when Davidson grabbed his second goal of the day, nudging the lead to 6-4.

Visconti would score back-to-back goals to tie the game with a little over a minute left in the third period. Unfortunately for the Eagles Castleton would answer with 4 consecutive goals to grab the crucial conference victory.

Husson's defense had what could arguably be their best outing of the season, causing Castleton to commit 16 turnovers and heavily pressuring their clear attempts.

"We were very happy to honor our seniors on such a beautiful day. Castleton is a very well coached team and they played phenomenally. I would really like to thank my defensive coordinator Mike Craig for his preparation and dedication to putting in various defensive schemes and I really think that this team is going to continue to improve and give a good effort through the end of the year," Head Coach Marsh Gray said.

Eric Lund (Mansfield, MA) had an exceptional showing in net for Husson, making a number of impressive saves. Lund ended the day with 14 saves.

Castleton's Davidson led the team with 4 goals and 3 assists, while goalkeeper Eric Horsfield stopped 11 shots in the victory.

Husson (3-6 overall, 3-3 NAC) will finish their regular season on the road as they will travel to UMaine at Farmington this Tuesday, April 15th.
