Box Score Gorham, ME - Husson baseball dropped a nine-inning, non-conference loss to #6 in the nation University of Southern Maine Thursday afternoon at USM Baseball Stadium. The Huskies totaled 10 runs on 15 hits and two Husson errors, while the Eagles plated three on 11 hits and two USM errors.
The Huskies touched up Husson starter Dan Whitney for nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, a walk and three home runs. The Eagles also used relievers Zachary Yates and Casey Estes for three-and-two-thirds innings. Yates gave up just a run on three hits and a walk, while Estes fanned two and allowed just a hit and a free pass. Whitney falls to 1-2 on the year.
Chris Bernard, now 2-3 for USM, allowed a run on six hits and three walks whilst striking out three Eagles in five innings. Out of the five relievers the Huskies used in the final four innings, Ryan Browner picked up the only blemishes giving up two earned on four hits.
Dylan Foster picked up two more hits and an RBI on the afternoon going 2-5. Foster leads the everyday lineup in average, batting .414. The starting center fielder also leads the lineup in on-base percentage (.494), slugging (.557), hits (29), triples (4), stolen bases (7) and runs (21) in a team-high 70 plate appearances in all 18 games.
Brandon Gendreau and Andrew Curran both picked up RBI as well for the Eagles while Kyle Bishop and J.T. Whitten each had two hits in a combined seven at-bats.
Husson will travel to New London, New Hampshire this weekend to take on Colby-Sawyer College in two North Atlantic Conference doubleheaders at 12:00 noon and 2:30pm both Saturday and Sunday.
