Box Score Winterhaven, FL - Husson baseball began its 2014 campaign Saturday afternoon in Florida with a tough 6-5 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Insitute. Kyle Bishop reached twice on errors giving him two RBI while RPI put a run on the board in the top of the ninth to regain the lead and win the game.
Cody McInnis went 2-4 on the day and batted in a run of his own while Pat Thibodeau went 3-5 and scored a run in the losing effort for the Eagles.
For the Engineers, Andrew Kalish and Nick Palmiero went a combined 7-7 to lead RPI to the win in the late-evening contest at Chain of Lakes Park.
RPI scored in the top of the first but lost the lead in the bottom half with Dylan Foster singling to rich scoring Thibodeau. Bishop then reached on an error by the shortstop scoring Foster.
Husson immediately relinquished the lead in the following two innings giving up four runs to the Engineers over the two frames.
The Eagles scored once in the sixth on a McInnis single to left plating Dennis Meehan to cut the lead to 5-3, and then scored twice in the seventh on another error in favor of Bishop and a Meehan sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-5 going into the eighth.
Palmiero provided the offense in the ninth for RPI, flying out to left to score Jared Jensen to earn the 6-5 lead and the victory.
Husson falls to 0-1 on the season while RPI moves to 3-0. The Eagles will play again on Monday the 10th as they take on Lesley at 5:00 PM in Auburndale, Florida.
