Baseball Outscores Becker 34-7 In Afternoon Doubleheader

Winter Haven, FL - Husson baseball's bats were at it once again on Tuesday afternoon downing Becker College 22-5 and 12-2. Husson moves to 3-1 on the early season, and have a day off Wednesday.

 

Game 1:

The Eagles came out swinging early in game one, scoring seven runs in the top of the first, the only runs they'd need to clinch game one. The Eagles scored on a J.T. Whitten single to right to right advancing Dylan Foster to third and scoring Pat Thibodeau. Kyle Bishop then reach on a fielder's choice moving Whitten to second and scoring Foster. Brandon Gendreau singled to left scoring Whitten and Cody McInnis notched a single of his own to plate Bishop. Pat Thibodeau reached again later in the inning on a error scoring Dennis Meehan and Foster reached once again via a single to right scoring both McInnis and Gendreau.

Becker fought back in the bottom half of the first and second to cut the Husson lead to 8-4 after two frames, but the persistent Husson squad scored five more in the top of the third and sixth and two more in the fourth and seventh to seal a convincing 22-5 victory.

Dennis O'Neil picked up the win for Husson going six innings, allowing four runs on six hits with four walks while striking out one.

Josh Gaudette hit a two run homer in the fourth, his first on the year and the second for the Eagles in three games.

 

Game 2:

 The Eagles picked up in game two where they left off in game one, scoring four runs in each of the first three innings. 

The Hawks pushed over a run in the top of the first on a Tom Natoli sac fly to score Chris Testa, but Gaudette hit an infield single to score Pat Thibodeau to tie it in the bottom half. Dennis Meehan began a 3-3 game moment later as he doubled to left scoring Gaudette. Brandon Gendreau knocked in two RBI soon after on a single to right field that scored Meehan and Bishop.

Meehan added a single in the bottom of the second to keep the bases loaded and score J.T. Whitten in Husson's second four-run inning in a row. The third was more of the same as Gaudette and Bishop drove in solo RBI capped off by Meehan's two-run bomb to finish off their 12-run effort.

Tim Nason grabbed the win for the Eagles in four innings of four-hit, one-run ball while striking out three in the process. Seth Freudenberger pitched the sixth giving up a hit and one run with two walks and Zachary Yates closed out the the game in a non-save position allowing just two hits in the seventh.

Brian Dowling took the brunt of the Husson offense for Becker, allowing 17 hits and twelve runs with a walk and strikeout in his three innings of work in the loss.

The Eagles will take the day off on Wednesday before playing Wartburg College of Waverly, Iowa on Thursday at 1:00pm.
